Black, gold, & gloriously large cubic zirconias.I've decided to revive this blog of mine just before the end of the first month of the new year. Usually if I find myself neglecting a project this long I'd kill it and create a new yet similar project hoping to cover up my disappointment in failing to keep up with the old one but the times have change and the new year calls for new habits. This habit I'm trying hard to adopt is finish everything I start. Overtime I've found that I'm great at starting things but awful at finishing them. This applies to almost everything in my life from something as simple as an essay to just general goals I set for myself. It's definitely not a feature I want to keep for too much longer.

What are your top five new years resolutions?

1. Stay on top of my school and put an end to the P-word.

2. Get healthy.

3. Find a job.

4. Get a license. (I know so sad! In college & no license)

5. Finish everything I start.

What are your top five Fashion-related new years resolutions?

1. Start wearing whatever I want.

Sometimes I find myself holding back in fashion mostly because I don't want to be the subject of a snarky comment/s. Don't get me wrong I appreciate my own fashion sense and take my style in stride but I will admit to being a little overly self conscious every once in a while.

2. LEARN TO WALK IN HEELS, AGAIN.

Although my wardrobe isn't necessarily shoe heavy (especially in the heels dep.) I do often day dream myself walking down the street in a fabulous outfit that can only reach its full potential with a great pair of heels. And even though I don't live in a fashion-forward town I would like to incorporate a platform here and there without having to look like I'm literally walking on eggshells for too long.

3. Collect Coats

Aside from jewelry another one of my greatest fashion fetishes is coats. Coats, I feel, are the most practical, functional statement pieces one can have in their wardrobe. I feel there's also a culture that comes with wearing a coat. When I think of a big, wool, almost floor length coat I think of the on-the-go working man or women in New York.

4. Stones, stones, &...well...more stones.

I've noticed in the last couple years or so that in buying and collecting jewelry I've stuck to the same thing; gold & animals and more often than not gold & animals combined. I want to search out and learn to incorporate more aztec, tribal, ethnic pieces with exotic designs and stones into my look. It's not that I don't like them it's just that I'd like to mix it up a bit and incorporate obviously more turquoise as well as lapis, amethyst, and many many more. I don't feel I give them a fair shot and being a self-proclaimed "jewellery maven" of sorts requires a little bit of diversity, no?

5. Blog! More!

I've abandoned my baby of a blog and I couldn't feel any worse about it. I know we've all slipped up before but I practically orphaned it in the sometimes scary world that is known as the internet.

I know it's a little late to share resolutions but feel free! fashion-related or not!

Dry Spell

Unfortunately right now. I believe all fashionistas go through it every once in a while. I've been so busy lately that I haven't found the time to really think of what to post. I don't want this to be an unfinished project of mine. I really enjoy blogging because it mixes my two favorite things...writing & fashion. So if anyone actually reads this sorry for the massive delay in posts!

I Live in a Wild Life Preserve

That's right. Not only am I surrounded by trees but I've personally been greeted by a raccoon, a family of squirrels, and an otter. Where the hell are the cats and dogs around here? What about the ants? Where did all the ants go? I miss civilization.

Fortunately there is a mall around. Unfortunately, there are little to no options. Fortunately between the pacsun and hollister I saw this little boutique with promise, it's called black and white. Of course I went straight for the jewelry section. These days I find myself judging a store by the quality of its jewelry section. I spotted this baby out of the corner of my eye and like usual fell in love. Doesn't it look like it was literally cut out of a chandelier?

Trying it on I felt all the disappointment had drained from me & in the end found hope for the little mall, town, etc. All I gotta say is THANK GOD for the internet.

I put this together today. The outfit is most definitely bum status so I made sure to ad gobs of vintage to cover it up.

Opening ceremony twist back dress. LOVE THIS. It's such a classic silhouette but then you ad a zipper and it's modern and youthful. Not only is it my favorite color but it reminds me of two of my favorite dresses of all time:

It's as if these two dresses had a love child and that love child is the opening ceremony dress haha.

and finally the Erin Fetherston. Another fashion dream come true if I could own any one of her dresses. I don't know if it's her color pallet or the overall construction of the dresses but there's just something so special about Erin Fetherston dresses. They're the kind of dresses you'd picture yourself wearing in a dream running through a forrest or field of flowers. It definitely has a fantasy element that I think every girl is attracted to at least one point in their lives.

I don't know why I'm thinking of birthday dresses all of a sudden considering my birthday is in February...who cares though, it's fun.

In the Land of Patricia..

Women can discover their inner fearless fashion tigress. I've always been an admirer of Patricia. Like everybody else I got word of her existence from Sex and the City. Her stuff is definitely not for the faint of heart, it takes a real fashion risk taker to wear her stuff with the confidence that her products were built for. Patricia definitely tailors to the daring bunch who can wear a feather headdress without flinching at the thought of someone snickering. Her work just screams I don't give a f***. She makes fashion fun, a fantasy for whose who don't mind entering a world with metallic clouds and stiletto trees.

I also feel that her style or clothes are the kind of friend who doesn't push their beliefs but one who respects and if allowed works with you to help you see what they see. Also the same friend who helps you look extra sexy for a hot date coming up hahaa. Her style/clothes aren't closed off, their very warm and welcoming to whoever wants to join.

Current awe: Noir Animal Rings. Here are ones that stood out to me the most:

My absolute favorite is the shark. First, how often do people bother to one make shark rings & two, how many people can actually pull of creating a wearable, chic design such as this one? It's truly a unique statement piece.

The only ones that can be found on ebay at the mome is the elephant in a 7.

I purchased this one hoping it would cover up all the pain and loss from the other failing gold panther ring.

Countdown to Zoe

Exactly 9 hours til Glamour God Rachel Zoe will make her triumphant return to Bravo. I have been waiting for this new season seconds after the last episode ended.

Oh, RZ. I feel like were brothers from another mother. Were both named Rachel. We both have an uncle Jerry (reference to the show), we both wear gigantic sunglasses & ridic amounts of gold jewelry.

I feel like I'm cheating at blogging because I'm posting such short entries. I feel that you can only afford to get away with that if you have tons of bomb pictures that don't need a big explanation or you've established yourself as a well-known blogger who doesn't need to post long entries to get a reaction or their point across. Now that I've been busy adjusting to college life it's hard to make time to sit down come up with what to post and take the time to execute it.

Oh well, that's just my opinion. Tune into the Rachel Zoe Project tomorrow @ 9 I'm so excited!!!

1. Ruth Saltz snakeskin bag with gold chain straps. This is such a sexy bag. Naturally the pairing a snake & gold anything would create this effect but the intricately placed lions head ultimately solidifies this bags overall uniqueness. Nice finishing touch to an always fierce accessory.

2. AH-MAZING. Now if you want to talk unique vintage purses this clutch has got to be on the top of the list. If not in the top 10 then DEFINITELY in the top 20 don't you think? Great 60's relic.

3. Vintage Nina Ricci. This necklace belongs in a museum because it embodies the james bond kind of mod-glamour of the past. Just looking at it sucks me back into a world that once was where Edie Sedgewick & studio 54 were still alive and well.

4. Trifari. Reminds me of an ornamental light fixture. I wish there was a switch in the back of the necklace so it could light up.

Classes officially start Wednesday. Being an actual adult starts on Tuesday about mid-afternoon, 3 o clock at the latest. Tomorrow will be the longest day of the year consisting of a shit load of driving, panicking, tears, and intense reality checks. Seaside will be lovely I'm sure but it lacks space. Home, San Diego, has lots of space. Hopefully all the trees won't freak me out.

Shoe Nazi

I'm not a shoe girl. Never really have been and may never really be. Don't get me wrong I like shoes just as much as the next person but I've never been one to take that liking to the next level by putting in the effort to search out and buy shoes regularly, I guess you could say. I suppose this is partly due to the fact that I'm very picky when it comes to shoes and I only want to buy some that I know I'll wear regularly and by regularly I mean every other day. If I wear something as often as every other day then it has to be comfortable and neutral colored and now that I think about it I've pretty much been living in black ballerina flats for the past four years of my life. That last sentence sounds even worse reading it on virtual paper then hearing it in my own head 5 seconds ago! How sad right!? Fortunately, ever since I started following various fashion blogs over the past five or six months now I've been exposed to so many out of these world shoes and, for the first time, really took the time to study and later appreciate what I now can call an art. I can't believe I've been denying myself this for so long! It's like I'm my own shoe nazi.

Although this realization didn't necessarily reinvent my shoe mindset to match that of Carrie Bradshaw or Jane Aldridge, it was, nonetheless, altered in a positive way. I decided to put a little spice in my shoe collection by adding some much needed heels so I went shopping to find the perfect black pump and fortunately I found them in the first store I stopped at which is, believe me, a rarity. Usually it takes at least three trips for me to find exactly what I want.

In my dream scenario I picture myself slipping these babies on inside of bloomies and the salesman saying "go ahead girlfriend work it" but since I don't have the money or power to make what goes on in my head a reality I decided to buy these and I couldn't be happier.

Steve Madden Trinitie. Great starter to my newly revitalized shoe collection eh? I also saw these Michael Kors boots and slightly fell in love.

I couldn't stop staring or talking about them. I felt like a little girl staring at a new, shiny barbie in the window display at Fao Swartz (back when it wasn't just in nyc). My mom agreed they were cute and that was that but I continued to talk about them all the way to the car with the hopes that a miracle would happen and she would actually buy them for me. It has happened before, this method has had its share of successes.

Clearly I'm focusing on the basics right now. Other shoes I'm looking to add:

I love mary janes. I can make that 180 and turn into a Carrie or Jane when it comes to mary janes. I could go on and on about my love affair with mary janes. There's definitely a warm feeling there. Mary janes are the type of shoe that has multiple personalities almost. They can be super girly then classic & sharp then a little naughty depending of course on the construction of the shoe & the way it's being styled. That's my take, I'm no expert though, just say the word if I should just stick to jewelry.

If at first you don't succeed...

cry, then try again, if you can muster up the strength. This was the case today when my long-awaited panther ring turned out to be a complete bust. I was so ridiculously excited to receive this ring that ever since it initially shipped I've been tracking it daily sometimes even hourly just waiting to get the notification that it was in San Diego and in transit. I even woke up early to make sure that I didn't miss a minute with my new ring so imagine my face when I opened the package and saw that it wasn't as amazing as I so desperately hoped it would be. I didn't expect it to be as spectacular as the cartier one but for the amount of money I paid I expected quality and quality isn't rough around the edges. It definitely looked a little beat and once I told my mom the price she proceeded to reduce my self-worth to the size of a peanut by reprimanding me about my spending habits. I mean I can be frugal but when it comes to beautiful jewelry I can't help but slip up every once in a while.

I then proceeded to drown my sorrows in some coconut pinkberry & a new gold bohemian-style cuff from forever 21.

I felt that this was a pretty standard accessory that I've been missing out on. I think that everyone should own a big, indian-style, bohemian-style cuff like this. Makes for a great statement piece especially if you're not really sure what to wear or have to rush to get somewhere. It's one of those cuffs that you can just throw on and it will take full responsibility for spicing up the outfit for you.

Also, in a state of boredom I went to my panther ring sellers blog and discovered this other panther friendly jewelry designer - Anita Ko. I've seen her designs before on Rachel Zoe but didn't know the name so I just assumed they were cartier. Although there's no way I'd be able to afford some of these at this time it's just nice to look. I guess you could consider this discount cartier. Here are some of my favs: (Sorry for the screen shots. I would have just posted the regular pictures but since her site has flash I couldn't do my usual copy and paste. & I couldn't find pictures anywhere else).

According to her site she invented the circle animal necklace. How innovative right? I have a snake circle necklace.

I've seen a lot of pyramid/stud bracelets that, in my opinion, are just too big, such as the cc skye one. This I think is the perfect size because you can piece it together with other bracelets without it necessarily taking over.

I think Anita Ko's jewelry caters to the people who aren't necessarily over the top in the way they choose to adorn themselves i.e. the people who don't naturally gravitate for the huge pendants or chunky cocktail rings to make a statement. They'd rather go for the more simple and pretty pieces that could go with every outfit, something worn everyday, something that could be considered special or a small signature. I think these pieces achieve just that. They blend instead of taking charge, their statement is more subtle instead of in your face but they still make a statement nonetheless, just in a different way.

When it comes to jewelry, there's no competing with India. The citizens of India take jewelry wearing to a whole new level adorning themselves in intricately designed gold bangles, colorful beaded necklaces, beautifully carved stone rings, out of this world chandelier earrings, nose rings, nose rings that attach to earrings, anklets, toe rings, toe rings that attach to anklets, head pieces, and so much more. To them, there isn't any part of the body where jewelry can't be applied. What makes Indian jewelry so unique is that it goes beyond the normal function of an accessory; it's a historical relic that represents India's long-standing cultural unity and that unity is brought about by religion. If you take a look at Ganesh or Shiva or any other Hindu god a majority of them are wearing loads of lavish jewelry all over their bodies. In the past Indian kings wanted to appear godlike to their people so they would emulate such gods by embellishing themselves accordingly. This profession of religious loyalty has overtime become a cultural statement that's known world-wide as part of India's signature style. Without such embellishment India's definition of style and glamour wouldn't be so unique. Who knew that something as simple as a bangle would have the ability to define an entire country?

I think the best display of embellishment is seen in Indian weddings where the bride is literally dripping in jewelry. Are you allowed to have an Indian wedding if you're not Indian?

I was fortunate enough to visit India in high school with a group of students and I can honestly say it was the best experience of my life. I highly recommend putting India on your list of places to travel throughout your lifetime. It's one of if not the most beautiful culture in the world and the jewelry is definitely a reflection of that. Although I didn't necessarily come back with something as impressive as a kundan jewelry set I did manage to get a few goodies as well as a very enviable scarf collection if I do say so myself.

Some info about shopping in India:

1. All the big cities are good places for getting the basic souvenirs such as quality religious beads, toy elephants, etc. but BE SURE TO SHOP AROUND because the next shop will most likely have what you want in either a better quality or price or both then the shop you first stopped at.

2. BARGAIN BARGAIN BARGAIN. Not only is it fun but you'd be surprised at how open the locals are to lowering their prices, I certainly was. If they don't budge at first that's okay just try again, keep talking. By doing that it will show them that you're not going to budge which in turn will raise the likelihood of them lowering the prices. Remember, they want to make a sale just as much as you want a deal so they are willing to work with you even though it might initially come off otherwise.

3. Although things are VERY cheap in India it doesn't always mean that what you're getting is the real deal. For example, I bought a "turquoise bracelet" for a thousand rupees and later found out it wasn't turquoise but my friend actually got a real turquoise necklace for 750 rupees. Don't rely on the price to tell you if what you're getting is or that.

4. The best place for silks is Varanasi. Another great city to shop is Dharamsala. A lot of Tibetan refugees live there and for a living most of them own and operate their own shop. Most of these shops carry a lot of hand made products either made by the shop owner themselves or affiliates of the shop owner. These products can range from clothes to comforters. Really beautiful stuff.

I just received my vintage Guy Laroche jacket from Paris and I'm having an attack of some sort. I can't even fully describe in words how giddy I am or how amazing I think this jacket truly is. I'll let the jacket do the talking.

The work of none other than Martin Margiela. Clever take on the classic diamond ring. Definitely something I'd like to add to my collection.

I also received my gold sarah coventry 'chantilly lace' bracelet today.

That was just for kicks but here's an up close picture:

It's so classic and beautiful and kind of gothic, yeah? The detail is just amazing, it's like art. The design reminds of the architecture featured on European gothic churches like the Koln cathedral in Germany or the buildings found in Prague or Poland. It's inspiring to say the least.

Is it weird that I also see the popes hat in this bracelet too?

It also reminded me of something much closer

to home; this being the wooden structure inside

the San Diego Children's Museum. Under it are a

few stages where kids can act out plays

with the help of hand sewn costumes

ranging from a frog to a king. I used to

volunteer there and had so much fun.

Not only are the kids too adorable for

words but it's a place where kids AND

parents can enjoy themselves. This place

is no chuckie cheese. Imagine a playground

mixed with a contemporary art museum.

They have a graffiti rock wall, a VW Bug

outside where kids can paint on it, and a

pillow fighting room, yes, you read correctly.

If you're ever in San Diego this is definitely

an attraction worth stopping at.

Words can't fully describe how truly giddy I am to receive this. It's been a long and exhausting search for the

perfect panther ring but I finally stumbled upon this one on etsy one sunny afternoon. It's the most

reasonable ring I could find in terms of quality and cost that matches the amazing yet incredibly

pricy Cartier panthere ring.

This is the kind of ring I dream about in my sleep. It's so ridiculously

flawless that I'm afraid that if I saw it in person I'd just burst into tears.

It's my dream ring. The ring is so spectacular to begin with that it

almost doesn't need a person to wear it but at the same time it

can't reach its full potential without a finger. It's a show-stopper

to say the least and it fills all my hearts desires hahahaa. I've

expressed my feelings about this ring to my sister and she said

that if she ever becomes an olympian she'd buy it for me with her

sponsor money. And what's great is that it's not like an impossibility

either she lives and breathes horses and rides every weekend so I'm

definitely crossing my fingers.

Evacuation Chic

This morning I woke up to my dog barking incessantly and a very loud knocking on my door. I thought it was my mom but I opened it up to none other than a police man who said something about a power line. Apparently something was engulfed in flames around 7 AM this morning that had to do with our power lines and we may have had to be evacuated if there were any signs that a freak accident would occur setting our house on fire. Great way to start the morning, eh? In the event that that did happen I made sure to dress appropriately so I put on my best gold chain and was ready to go hahaha.

Sorry for the less than quality picture, my camera has been broken for sometime now and is kind of a lost cause. :-(

I got this goodie on ebay for next to nothing. :-) The necklace consists of three or four small snake chains braided together to make one big gold chain necklace. LOVE. I've been looking for something like this for quite some time now but whenever I came across anything at stores (both off and online) they were too short and made of actual beads.

Hear Ye Hear Ye

It was about 5 months ago that I stumbled upon what I now know to be the new sought-after force in fashion journalism, this being the now holy fashion blog. I was really bored one day so I decided to dismantle the skyscraper that I unintentionally created of all my teen vogues and perused through them all one by one. As I made my way to the more current issues (2008 and beyond) I came across an article that I had seen before but didn't really take the time to read. This article talked about how fashion obsessed teens are changing the way people view style, among other things. My curiosity grew about this so-called phenomenon and about a week or two later I decided to utilize google and finally see what all this was about. To my pleasant suprise, what I thought would be a 5 minute skim turned into a two hour sitting. Never before have I seen such a display of fashion. I'm so accustomed to seeing such displays in magazines, on the runway, or on the fabulously wealthy on TV. I was entranced by the fabulous flowy dresses, sharp structured, tailored jackets, unique vintage jewelry, and to die for (literally bury me now) shoe collections were simply spectacular. And what was even better about the blogs were that the girls knowingly or unknowingly stressed the importance of it's not who you wear that matters most but how you wear it and that's what creates personal style. I found this to be very refreshing and soon joined this cult following. Later on I discovered more fashion bloggers whose wardrobes I had warm feelings for and overtime they're blogs became daily reads.

Reading these great blogs has sort of awaken and taken to the next level my love for all things fashion, not that it ever died or anything, but, let's just say it took a long nap. In making frequent visits to these blogs I found that the thing that really wowed me the most were the mass amounts of amazing vintage pieces featured, especially the jewelry. The jewelry was the thing that really got me excited and sometimes was the sole reason for returning to specific blogs. It was the jewelry that I found myself drooling over the most in front of the monitor. Heavy gold chain link necklaces, geometric pendants, beautifully laced filigree bracelets, chunky cocktail rings, in the words of Rachel Zoe, I DIE. As I learned more and more I realized that jewelry is the thing I want to find, to collect, it's what I want to pass down to my children and grand children as a reflection of myself, among other things. It's just, ahh, amazing. So to fit the circumstances I wanted to start a jewelry-focused fashion blog that featured my most lusted after vintage and modern necklaces, bracelets, rings, and what not. And of course every now & then I'll probably mention shoes, bags, scarfs, etc. I've always been an acessories girl. So I'm done giving my spiel and I hope you will enjoy this just as much as I am!!
